The basic message of the Bible can be understood in any language. At the same time, something is always lost in translation. It could be a play on words, nuance in meanings, concepts we lack words for in English, or cultural values that differ from our own. Learning a bit of biblical Hebrew can unlock the meaning of the Old Testament by helping you not only better understand what biblical authors meant but also how they thought about God and the world. Rather than offering a full-blown introduction to Hebrew, this course gets right to the most exciting insights by exploring the 12 most important Hebrew words in the Bible, including shalom, forgiveness, glory, soul, spirit, salvation, righteousness, and justice. Along the way, you’ll learn more about how Hebrew works (including the alphabet!) and gain some practical tools for doing further language study on your own. No prior knowledge of Hebrew is required.
