In this course, we explore the issues that the church in Corinth faced and the Apostle Paul’s conversations with them. We also look at the particulars of the situations and how Paul consistently emphasizes the “big picture”—the Corinthians’ embodiment of Jesus. This class will also look beyond the issues to the emotional relationship between Paul and the church in crisis. Finally, we ask how the conversation between Paul and Corinth can offer support and guidance to the church in our context as the church navigates the particular conflicts of the 21st century.

In doing so, we will come to understand the ancient idea of Sabbath as more than just downtime on the weekend. Rather, we will discover Sabbath as a disruptive and life-giving invitation to think differently about our priorities, the pace of our lives, and what it means to be created in the image of a God who rests.
