In this seven-session course, we explore the meaning and significance of resurrection in the ancient world. Beginning with the church’s letters, we’ll examine how the proclamation of resurrection shaped the radical message of the gospel. From there, we’ll turn to the gospels themselves, tracing how this proclamation takes narrative form. By comparing the different accounts of the risen Jesus, we’ll uncover each writer’s distinctive themes and theological aims. Finally, we’ll reflect on how the resurrection continues to speak into our own lives and communities today.
